2nd Rehearsal arrives…
Bit of a double booking on rehearsal venue this week,
so rather than join the Keep Fit classes as Balvonie, we retired to the
Church hall with our battered knockwurst and enjoyed the luxury of
carpets.
Makeshift café scene in place, Lana and Pat the
stage Manager cracked on. Donna her assistant had a day off. We are still
searching for a keyboard player for the cabaret scenes and Edith’s
impromptu solos, for now we all hum a vague tune to help her out.
My God!
She's going to sing!
We kicked off at Act 1 scene 5. It starts off fairly
simply, with John Jnr and Bill Puckerin, playing out the funny double act
of Captain Alberto- da Italian wara hero with da shiny medals and the wig-
wearing pompous Colonel. The rehearsal quickly pips the play for comedy;
with at any one time, twelve people on set and little room around them,
it’s hard not to end up in a scene by stretching a leg or sneezing.
John Beeteson spent years cultivating his BBC
announcer meets Leslie Phillips delivery, so he was destined to play
Crabtree with his legendary French pronunciation. I am told its like the
late Les Dawson playing the piano out of tune, you need to be good at it
first to make it sound awful later!
Lana has finalised the parts, with Gruber- the man
from the Gaystapo played by newcomer Bob and the power mad General played
by Thomas our Bavarian native. Seeing Lana, with her Irish tones, tutor
Thomas on the Ayrshire version of a German accent has people creasing at
the irony of it.
The play was sold out the week of casting, so a
discussion was held, about extra performances. Richard our fixer of things
and marketing guru is exploring the options, guaranteed to do so while
carrying an armful of paperwork.
In all, we covered a large and complicated part of
the script; Lana wants to block the whole thing once before she starts
tweaking it, sounds painful. It was agreed rehearsals would encompass
Friday nights as well, with such a large cast and a lot of scene changes,
just to run through once will take most of a rehearsal at this stage.

Do you think
this wiglet
looks natural?
Hands off!
Only 7 odd weeks away, so I better go and look at my
line, erm I mean lines.
Regards
