Sunday 18th January
We are definitely getting somewhere with AA ( Allo
Allo). Rehearsals started promptly, actually they started as people
sneaked in early for chat and gossip and found themselves on set and in
character.
We went “From the top” another theatrical term,
which I need not explain. Props are starting to appear in scenes, my own
parrot stand in- a plastic bowling pin- was well behaved and didn’t
disgrace itself on set.
"I stick my finger where to make the
parrot radio work?!"
The action is becoming a lot slicker as people are
able to down scripts and learn gestures and expressions. This was proven
when two of our cast were trying to gaze lovingly into each other’s
eyes, while squinting at the script behind each other’s heads!
Edith (Rosemary) gave an excellent, but almost too
tuneful version of “Under the bridges of Paris”. Hopefully when we
find a keyboard player, that should drown her out a bit. Her expressions
are priceless and one can understand why Rene (Gordon) seeks the company
of Yvette (vixen) Mimi (French tartlet) and Michelle (indiscreet spy)
played by Louise, Kirsty and Karen. He surely must tire of all the
attractive female attention….

Gordon says his look of pure enjoyment has
nothing to do with the attractive girls in the cast. It's just
acting.
Herr Flick (Bill Wright) has added to his
ear-piercing repertoire on the violin with “
The stripper”, Bill foolishly asked when he should stop, when she (Helga)
has nothing left to strip was the untrue but predictable reply. The scene
ends with a loud twang- cue references to G-strings snapping.

"Are you standing comfortably? No?... Good, then
I shall begin"
Anne and Fiona were there, as they have the daunting
task of kitting us all out at least once, plus costume changes and most of
us as Hitler in the last scene. They have taken enough measurements to
knit me a full-body “Snoozy Suit”.
As Lana was good enough to let me escape early, to
return to my err em 18th (ish) [Welcome to the 30 Club, Paul
– Ed] Birthday Party, I
missed the last part of rehearsals, so rather than make it up as a
journalist might, I will go early next week, for the gossip and chat and
report back here later- I hope rehearsal doesn’t start too
quickly………
